Heart Valve Disease

Heart valve disease is the term used to define diseases of heart valves which control the flow of blood across the 4 chambers of heart. Valve is a leaflet like structure that act as one-way allowing the blood to flow forward. The narrowing of the valves or the mechanical defect in the valve may cause the blood to regurgitate (flow backward into the chamber at each beat). As a result the heart strives harder to pump the same amount of blood to supply oxygen rich blood to the body.

Patients with heart valve disease exhibit symptoms such as unusual fatigue, swelling in ankles, feet, abdomen and neck, and shortness of breath (upon exertion or lying down). The severity of symptoms varies with the seriousness of the heart valve disease. Dr Shiva Prasad’s clinic offers prompt diagnosis and a range of treatment/ procedures for heart valve disease.
